FU Qinglong

Biography of Fu Qinglong (傅青龍)

Fu Qinglong (傅青龍, born 1933) is a Taoist internal alchemist, physician, Yang-style Taijiquan master active in the Shanghai Taijiquan tradition, and an Internal Martial Arts expert. Known for his depth in Taoist Internal Alchemy (Neidan 內丹) and his refined understanding of classical Yang-style Taijiquan, he transmitted the Southern Alchemical Tradition to Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen. Although little is publicly recorded about his life, Fu Qinglong’s influence continues through the Taoist-Lifestyle lineage, where his teachings form a core foundation of modern Taoist practice, internal cultivation, and Taiji training.

Training and Teachers — Shanghai Yang-Style, Internal Martial Arts, and Taoist Neidan

Born in 1933, Fu Qinglong trained within the Shanghai Yang-style Taijiquan lineage, known for its precision, internal structure, and integration of martial and alchemical principles. His primary teachers included:

Fu also learned Hebei Style Xingyiquan, Cheng Style Baguazhang, and other Taoist oriented martial arts. Through these transmissions, Fu Qinglong inherited a synthesis of internal martial arts, Neidan, and classical Taoist body methods.

In-House Students and Lineage transmission

Fu Qinglong accepted only a few in-house (closed-door) students.
Among them, Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen is recognized as:

  • his principal inheritor in the West and sole foreign disciple,

  • recipient of the complete Southern Neidan curriculum, and Fu's Internal Martial Arts

  • transmitter of Fu-style Taijiquan and internal methods within the Taoist Alchemical Studies Centre (TASC) and Taoist-Lifestyle Academy.

This transmission preserves mainly a rare, authentic line of Taoist Internal Alchemy, Yang-style Taijiquan, Baguazhang, and Shidaxing or Xinyiliuhequan.

Early Encounters and Lineage Connection

During the mid-1980s, while Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen was training in China, he witnessed a meeting between Shen Hongxun and Fu Qinglong in a Shanghai park. Although the conversation was not audible, it revealed a shared background in Taoist Neidan.

Following later differences in interpretation with Shen, Dan returned to China seeking deeper classical insight. On this visit he met Fu Qinglong directly, marking the beginning of their formal master–disciple relationship.

Development of Teaching Systems and Internal Methods

While Fu Qinglong did not publicly promote formal “systems,” his teachings profoundly shaped several key practices preserved through Taoist-Lifestyle:

Fu-Style Taijiquan

A refined expression of Yang-style Taijiquan integrating large-frame, small-frame, and Neidan structure, rooted in the Shanghai tradition.

Yuanqigong (元氣功)

A meditative qigong system developed with Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen, emphasizing posture, breath, relaxation, and natural qi-flow.

Southern Neidan Curriculum

A complete Taoist Internal Alchemy training focusing on jing-qi-shen cultivation, fire–water methods, internal transformation, meditative absorption, and union with the Dao.

These teachings now form part of the Taoist-Lifestyle Academy’s core curriculum.

Academic and Research Context

Fu Qinglong’s Neidan knowledge played an important role during the academic collaboration between Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen and Dr. Monica Esposito at Fudan University (1985–1986) and later in Belgium and Italy.
Esposito’s groundbreaking research into Taoist alchemy was enriched by Dan’s exposure to the Southern Neidan lineage, helping bridge classical scholarship and living Taoist practice.

Connection to Taoist Internal Alchemy (Neidan 內丹)

According to the lineage tradition:

  • Fu Qinglong and Shen Hongxun studied aspects of Taoist Internal Alchemy under a shared teacher, Yue Huanzhi.

  • Their paths diverged:

    • Fu Qinglong completed the classical Southern Neidan curriculum.

    • Shen Hongxun developed modern therapeutic Qigong systems.

Fu Qinglong later transmitted the complete Southern Neidan lineage to Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen, forming the foundation of Taoist-Lifestyle’s alchemical path.

Historical Context — Acceptance of Dan Vercammen as a Lineage Holder

During a 1988 research trip, Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen met Fu Qinglong again in Shanghai. In this meeting:

  • Fu clarified the earlier discussion with Shen regarding proper transmission and the ethics of public demonstration of alchemical methods.

  • He formally accepted Dan as an in-house disciple, transmitting to him the continuation of the Southern Neidan lineage.

This event marks a defining moment in the Taoist-Lifestyle tradition.

Classical Lineage Background — Southern Neidan Tradition (南宗內丹)

The Taoist-Lifestyle alchemical lineage basically descends through:

  • Zhang Boduan (張伯端, 11th c.) — Wuzhenpian

  • Liu Huayang (劉華陽, 12th–13th c.) — Huimingjing

  • Wu Chongxu (吳沖虛, 14th–15th c.) — fire–water alchemy methods

  • Chen Yingning (陳撄寧, 1880–1969) — modern Neidan scholar

  • Fu Qinglong (傅青龍, b. 1933) — modern inheritor

  • Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen — current transmitter within Taoist-Lifestyle.

This lineage emphasizes dual cultivation of Taoist Alchemy and includes Taoist meditation, internal and external transformation, and refinement of jing-qi-shen, distinct from Qigong-based therapeutic systems.

Expansion of the Lineage Through Taoist-Lifestyle

Through Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen, Fu Qinglong’s teachings spread into:

  • Belgium

  • The Netherlands

  • Europe and the UK

  • America

  • The Taoist-Lifestyle Academy and TASC.

Today, the curriculum preserves authentic Taoist practice, Neidan, Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Shidaxing, Baguazhang, and Yuanqigong, rooted in Fu Qinglong’s transmission.

Acknowledgment of Gratitude

With deep respect, Taoist-Lifestyle.Com acknowledges the enduring influence of Fu Qinglong (傅青龍) on the development of its Taoist, alchemical, and Internal Martial Arts teachings.

His instruction shaped Prof. dr. Dan K.J. Vercammen’s understanding of internal cultivation, Neidan, Taijiquan structure, martial arts, and authentic Taoist transformation.
The Taoist-Lifestyle Academy continues to honor this lineage through dedicated cultivation and teaching, as asked to do so by Dr. Fu Qinglong.
