Biography of Fu Ziling (傅子靈)

Physician, Taoist health practitioner, and Southern Alchemical Tradition (Jindan Nanzong) cultivator.

Fu Ziling (傅子靈, 1897–1996) was a traditional physician and Taoist practitioner originally from Hangzhou (杭州), Zhejiang Province (浙江省). Rooted in a family tradition of classical medicine and deeply engaged with Taoist health methods, he devoted his life to the combined study of Chinese medicine, Neidan (內丹), and Neigong (內功).

During the upheavals of the Chinese Civil War period, Fu Ziling relocated to Shanghai, where he encountered influential Taoist masters connected to Baiyun Guan (White Cloud Temple) and moved closer to circles associated with modern alchemical scholarship. Over the decades, he remained known within the transmission line as a man of discipline, vitality, and quiet dedication—cultivating health and internal strength until his peaceful passing at the age of 99.

Move to Shanghai — French Concession and Daoist Connections

During the Chinese Civil War, Fu Ziling moved to the French Concession in Shanghai. In Shanghai, he came in touch with:

  • Baiyunguan (White Cloud Temple) Taoist masters

  • the alchemical circle around Chen Yingning

  • the theoretical study of Neidan (內丹)

  • the practical training of Neigong (內功)

Through sustained practice, he remained very fit and healthy until his death.

Southern Alchemical Tradition — Jindan Nanzong (金丹南宗)

After meeting a Taoist master of the Southern Alchemical Tradition (Jindan Nanzong), Fu Ziling focused on learning this tradition. A key aspect of this choice was that he could practice this tradition together with his wife, making it part of their shared life-path.

Family Continuity — Father and Son

Fu Ziling’s son, Fu Qinglong (傅青龍, born 1933), followed in his father’s medical and alchemical footsteps.
